Global distribution of ice

Global distribution of cold environments
You may need to be able to describe where you find them:
· Two main glacial areas – Antarctica and The Arctic
· Tundra/periglacial – generally above 60 degrees north
· Alpine areas – West cost of Canada and USA (Rockies); West coast of South America ( The Andes); South Island, New Zealand; The Himalayas, Asia; The Alps, Europe; West coast of Scandinavia – Finland
Also you need to be aware that maritime areas such as the Arctic and Southern Oceans are included. Much of the Arctic Ocean is covered in floating ice, although many scientists believe that this coverage will reduce substantially in the next century as a result of global warming.
